VOSGES - Le Linge, Hartmannswillerkopf, Tete des Faux

Hartmannswillerkopf: 1914 - 1918 Set atop a mountain known as "Vielle Armand" overlooking the Rhine valley, the "Vielle Armand" is the most extraordinary complex of German trenches and bunkers to be found anywhere on the Western Front.

Le Linge Le Linge - this rocky spur, about 500m long and 1000m high with three sides sloping down steeply into the Weiss valley, was the scene of furious attacks by the French in 1915. Today the opposing trench systems are, along with HWK, probably the best preserved on the Western front.

Tete des Faux A mountain top with extensive views it was the scene of bitter fighting in Christmas 1914 when the wounded froze to death. Subsequently both sides acquiesced to peace and merely watched each other with the Germans in particular building an extensive network of defence and supply systems.
