'Les Fantomes' are eight ghosts - Young Recruit, Sapper, Machine Gunner, Grendaier, Colonial Soldier, Poilu and Airman protecting a dead man emerging from his shroud - rising from the battle field. The sculptor, Paul Landowski served in the 35th RI and was responsible for many other memorials.
